My name is Tom O’Sullivan and there’s something about seeing the world through a lens that captivated me into the art of videography/photography.

Previously, I shot on a 2nd gen Canon 600D DSLR with a 50mm - 1.8f lens. The depth of field the 50mm allows for, is the pinnacle of making the subject of the image the main focal point, while the background almost seems irrelevant. Treating the 50mm as a ‘skill’ rather than a tool has really opened my creative mind when it comes to looking at different types of angles and creative compositions.

Today, I shoot with a Sony FX3 in 4K, supported by a gimbal for enhanced stabilisation. This setup allows for greater clarity, precision, and fluidity in motion, ensuring that the visual quality matches the intent behind every shot.

In addition to on-the-move work, I also set up structured interview environments designed for effective storytelling. This includes multi-camera arrangements to capture varied angles and authentic reactions, along with a dedicated lighting setup that creates a balanced, engaging, and visually coherent atmosphere. Together, these elements allow me to craft narratives that feel both polished and genuinely human.

While I have a strong passion for video work, the essence of my practice lies in connecting with people. Building trust, understanding their stories, and creating a space where they feel comfortable and valued is central to my process. It is this human connection that ultimately shapes the authenticity and emotional depth of the final piece.

In the end, that’s what it’s all about.
